The role of a Support Coordinator is to work closely with the participant, guide them in understanding their plan and how to get the most out of their NDIS funding. A Support Coordinator can also connect you with the right services and help you with achieving NDIS goals Support Coordination is a funded Category (Capacity Building – Category 7) within NDIS plans. The funding provides the opportunity for participants to work with a Support Coordinator.
Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination are two different levels of support that are available under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia.
Support Coordination is a support category that is designed to help NDIS participants navigate the complexities of the NDIS system and connect with mainstream and community-based services that can meet their needs. Support Coordinators work with participants to understand their goals and needs, develop a plan for accessing the services and supports they require, and provide ongoing assistance to implement and monitor their plan.
Specialist Support Coordination, on the other hand, is a higher level of support that is designed for NDIS participants with more complex needs, who require a higher level of support to implement their NDIS plan. Specialist Support Coordinators have additional skills and experience in working with participants with complex needs, and they are able to provide more intensive support to help participants access and manage their supports. They can also coordinate specialist services and supports that are required to meet the participant's needs, such as allied health or clinical services.
In summary, while both Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination are designed to assist NDIS participants with navigating the NDIS system and accessing the supports they require, Specialist Support Coordination is a higher level of support that is designed for participants with more complex needs who require more intensive support to implement their plan.
