We acknowledge Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities as the Traditional Custodians of the land and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging whose connection to the land and waters reaches back to the beginning of Ancestral time. We do recognise that their sovereignty was never ceded. We celebrate, value and include people of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, cultures, bodies and abilities.
A dream to see people of all backgrounds, sexuality, cultures, bodies and abilities to access and utilise the NDIS scheme in the most equitable manner.
Team Frankie is proud to introduce specific Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants led by Louise Hamilton.
From Louise;
My name is Louise Hamilton, I am a Wiradjuri Woman from the Narrungdera people, (meaning place of lizards), (Narrandera, English spelling) NSW. The totem animal belonging to the Wiradjuri people is the Frilled Neck Lizard.
My Grandfather is a Bundjalung man. The Bundjalung Country extends across Northern NSW to Southeast Queensland with the Logan River as the northern boundary and the southern boundary is the Lower Clarence River.
Wiradjuri connections stem back to one of the first Missions established on our Wiradjuri lands, Waragdesda, the Mission was shut down in 1908. Warangesda. We are also connected to family who lived at the Erambie Mission.
I am committed to culturally appropriate NDIS and mainstream support for our mob! I have been working in community for 20 years. I joined team Frankie as I have witnessed how the Support Coordinators contributions have resulted in many triumphs for our mob in Community.
We know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living with a disability are either not joining the scheme at the same rate or not appropriately implementing their plans. The Frankie’s are ready to change this, in the most authentic manner.
I believe using our culture strengthens the journey towards achieving life goals. Being culturally responsive is about being reflective and most specifically understanding cultural knowledge, insight and a deep respect for our ancestors.
Aboriginal peoples right to self-determination is at the heart of our Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination service. I am proud to be a part of Team Frankie.
